It all started from the research on a discussion online,  a case about a group of females buying cheap period pads without quality control. The response of them saying “I have a hard time, I have to buy these” greatly catched my heart.  Living in 2023, (despite any social classes),  hygiene freedom seems to be more far away than we imagine.
Thus I created this App called “ALSO”, aimed to be a platform for females to offer menstrual support to each other. On the map section, one can see where there's help needed as well as where the help is offered. Our wish of building this app is to see the green locations all over the place. On clicking the detail button, you can see specifically what kind of need/help was created, from a period pad request from a bathroom to offering a donation to rural areas. We want to escape from an hierarchical way of thinking between the “donate and receive” situation. In this app, you can make either donation or request, under the same category.
This app also serves as a community where females can feel safe to share and learn about menstrual and hygiene information and education, as well as the history of period poverty in different places.
Most importantly, for donations that go to girls who live in rural areas, we have a strict charity organization selection and offer a follow up system where corruption is best avoided. We also aim to serve as a safe communication platform for teachers who teach in rural areas making requests for girls.
Instead of building a new platform that solves the question, I would like to introduce one that raises the question and awareness and more importantly, expands access for people who need it by using existing portals that have already been built.
Thus, there’s no aesthetic innovation in this project, every interface is a bootleg from the existing most popular app in the country where it’s used, allowing the option to “camouflage” from the pressure that the users are already experiencing from the society, and try to invite a safe space and a more convenient way to expand their skills on using the existing tool that they are familiar with.
